'Dancing With the Stars': Shannen Doherty does a Viennese waltz for her dad
We didn't know that Brenda Walsh ... er, Shannen Doherty ... was afraid of anything, but turns out she's got such a fear of performing live that it can cause her to break out in hives.
Actually, considering we saw a TV critic make her cry during a press junket once, this doesn't completely surprise us.
And her initial turn on the "Dancing With the Stars" floor -- performing a Viennese waltz with partner Mark Ballas -- was definitely a nervous one. But she still made the judges -- straight "6"s -- and her dad (semi)proud.
Bruno Tonioli praised her for tackling such "difficult" choreography her first week out, although he also said she she was swinging around her arms "like a primate." Meanwhile Carrie Anna Inaba saw definite potential.Shannen Doherty is stressing out about tonight's premiere of 'Dancing With the Stars'. She chatted this morning with Ryan Seacrest about some of the havoc the stress is playing on her because she's “nervous and freaking out” about the "live audience".
“I break out in hives,” she said. “My stomach is a mess. I’m like, ‘I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.’”
She had nothing but good things to say about some of her competition:
“Nicole [Scherzinger] is amazing. Not only is she really, really nice, but she’s a dancer,” she said. “Evan [Lysacek], being an ice skater, I think he’s going to do fantastic. And I think Pam [Anderson] is just going to be sexy, sexy, sexy, and so much fun to watch.”
Shannen's father suffered a stroke on Christmas and his fight to regain his life has been an inspiration for her:
“It’s kind of a negotiating tool,” she said. “He’s going to go in there and work really hard on regaining his speech and his mobility. And I’m going to get over my fear of a live audience.”
