Mississippi Fight In Stands | Mississippi State players fight in stands at basketball tournament -Full Video

Mississippi State's basketball team fought in the stands Thursday night between games at the Diamond Head Classic.

Sophomore forward Renardo Sidney and junior forward Elgin Bailey got into the altercation about 10 minutes before the tipoff of the game between tournament host Hawaii and Utah at the Stan Sheriff Center. Punches were thrown in the fight that lasted several minutes and was broken up by teammates.

Sidney was seen being escorted away by arena ushers and Honolulu Police, who said later that nobody was arrested.

Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury refused comment until he "finds out all the facts."

Sidney scored 19 points in the Bulldogs' 69-52 win over San Diego earlier Thursday while Bailey had two points.

Sidney, a highly touted McDonald's All-American out of Fairfax (Los Angeles) High, sat out all last season while awaiting clearance from the NCAA. He has appeared in just two games this season and scored 31 points with nine rebounds. Just this week, he was suspended by Stansbury for "conduct detrimental to the team" and was benched for the first-round game loss to Washington State on Wednesday.

saharan cheetah

Scientists capture photograph of rare Saharan cheetah

An elusive Saharan cheetah recently came into the spotlight in Niger, Africa, where a hidden camera snapped photos of the ghostly cat, whose pale coat and emaciated appearance distinguish it from other cheetahs.

In one of the images the sleek, light-colored cat with small spots on its coat and a small head is turning in the direction of the camera, its eyes aglow.

A camera trap recently captured the elusive Saharan cheetah in a vast desert in Niger, Africa

Its appearance, and how the Saharan cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus hecki) is genetically related to other cheetahs is open to question, said John Newby, CEO of the Sahara Conservation Fund (SCF), who is part of the team, along with SCF's Thomas Rabeil and others, who captured the camera-trap snapshots between July ad August. What they know about this species comes from the few photos they've managed to capture. [Image of Saharan cheetah]

"I think we were more happy than surprised when the images turned up, because we knew cheetahs were in the general area because we had seen their tracks on several occasions," Newby said. "However, the area is so vast that picking up an animal as rare as this always entails a lot of luck and good judgment on where to place the cameras."

The animal is so rare and elusive scientists aren't sure how many even exist, though they estimate from the few observations they've made of the animal and tracks that fewer than 10 individuals call the vast desert of Termit and Tin Toumma in Niger home. Fewer than 200 cheetahs probably exist in the entire Sahara. [10 Species You Can Kiss Goodbye]

Losing this cheetah would also mean losing important genetic and biological diversity, as these animals have adaptations for survival in extreme desert conditions.

Their home can reach sizzling temperatures up to 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 degrees Celsius), and is so parched no standing water exists. "They probably satisfy their water requirements through the moisture in their prey, and on having extremely effective physiological and behavioral adaptations," Newby said.

In an effort to conserve water and stay out of the heat, the Saharan cheetah is even more nocturnal than other cheetahs.

Spotting these cats in the wild has been a challenge. "They are incredibly shy and elusive animals," Newby said. In addition, they likely have broad home ranges since their prey – gazelles, hares, large birds and smaller rodents – are relatively scarce. Observations that have been made suggest they prefer caves and rock shelters as breeding dens.

Among the threats to the pale cat are scarcity of prey due to poaching and overuse, and conflicts with herders over stock harassment and killing of their animals, according to SCF. Apparently cheetah skins are prized as prayer rugs or used to make slippers.

"They are suspected of taking goats and even baby camels, and as a result are persecuted just like most other large predators," Newby said. "Work underway with local nomads is putting together the true picture of livestock predation in an attempt to reduce the arbitrary slaughter of carnivores that has massively reduced populations of cheetah and striped hyenas."

Newby and Rabeil say the camera-trap study will provide tangible evidence for the cheetah's existence in the Termit area.

"The more we know about the animal the better we can conserve it, including pinpointing key areas for extra protection," Newby said. "The cheetah’s presence adds weight to arguments for the entire zone’s protection as a nature reserve and strengthens our ability to raise support for conservation activities."

The Saharan cheetah is listed as critically endangered on the 2009 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. (IUCN stands for International Union for Conservation of Nature.)

Walmart Holiday Hours: Walmart Christmas Eve Hours

walmart holiday hours

Christmas is almost here. We are enjoying time with family and friends on Christmas even but then we remember that we forgot to get something at the store. Oh no, I hope that Walmart is still open! Well calm down, as of right now Walmart is still open but at 8pm you are going to find it’s closed because of Walmart holiday hours.

Walmart holiday hours aren’t all bad however. The employees at Walmart are more than happy to find out that they do not have to work Christmas day and they get off on Christmas eve. Yes, Walmart is going to be closed on Christmas. Don’t hyperventilate though because Walmart will be open again for the 26th and Walmart holiday hours will be over for another year.

I’m not sure if they have always taken time off for the holidays but as long as I have remembered this has always been the case. I always figured that they might change it up though and start staying open so that they could make some extra profit. This time Walmart surely put workers over profit, good job Walmart! Now you know the Walmart holiday hours.

• 1/3 cup orange marmalade
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 3 tablespoons soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons brown sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
• 1 tablespoon mustard powder
• 1 cup beer
• 1 (8 pound) prime rib roast
• 1/4 cup olive oil
• freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Mix together the ginger, marmalade, garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, hot sauce, and mustard. Stir in the beer. Prick holes all over the roast with a 2 pronged fork. Pour marinade over roast. Cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, basting at least twice.
  2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  3. Place roast on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour about 1 cup of marinade into the roasting pan, and discard remaining marinade. Cover roasting pan with aluminum foil, and seal edges tightly around pan.
  4. Cook roast for 1 hour in the preheated oven. After the first hour, remove the aluminum foil. Baste, reduce heat to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and continue roasting for 1 more hour. The thermometer reading should be at least 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) for medium-rare, and 170 degrees F (76 degrees C) for well done. Remove roasting pan from oven, place aluminum foil over roast, and let rest for about 30 minutes before slicing.

“Grand Canyon Death Jump” – Wednesday, August 4 at 10 PM ET/PT
In his most amazing and dangerous demonstration to date, Criss attempts to jump the Grand Canyon on a high-performance hybrid motorcycle. He will either miraculously appear inside a locked cage dangling from a helicopter or plummet 4,200 feet to his death.

“Luxor Walk” – Wednesday, August 11 at 10 PM ET/PT
Criss Angel attempts to defy the laws of gravity and walk up the entire side of the Luxor Hotel and Casino which rises more than 650 feet above the Las Vegas strip and disappear into the incinerating light atop the pyramid in front of thousands of spectators.

“Cement Shoes” – Wednesday, August 18 at 10 PM ET/PT
An homage to Harry Houdini’s most dangerous escape, Criss is chained and shackled with more than 100 feet of chains and more than 20 locks and lowered 90 feet from the side of the London Bridge in the cold, murky water of Lake Havasu, Arizona in front of 12,000 spectators. To make the escape even more impossible and drowning an almost certainty, Criss has his feet imbedded in a barrel of cement before being lowered off the bridge and deep into the lake below.

“Smash”
At the monumental Grand Canyon Sky Walk, in front of more than one thousand onlookers, Criss is shackled and locked inside a confining solid crate except for holes to view his face and hands at all times. The crate is then hoisted over the edge of the canyon more than 4,200 feet above the Colorado River. Criss reveals his process of escape but if he does not succeed in time, he will fatally crash to the rocky depths below.

“Levitation Vanish”
With Criss’ chaotic schedule, including his live performance of BeLIEve ten times each week, the taping of his hit TV series and moving into Serenity, his new home, Criss decides to escape the city for the Valley of Fire deep into the Mojave desert. In this remote and mystical place, Criss will attempt to miraculously levitate more than 100 feet up into the sky and then vanish.

“100 Gone”
The Guinness World Records is on hand and sets the test conditions as Criss attempts the largest vanish of people in history at the Luxor Convention Arena. One hundred people are chosen at random and shackled together in front of a crowd of thousands and Criss attempts to make them all disappear—instantaneously!

Chelsea Clinton’s wedding weekend is underway

Good morning! Although we weren’t invited to Chelsea Clinton’s wedding (the nerve!) we’re still watching all the festivities like a hawk. Arienne Thompson here to fill you in on the details so far. … Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former president Bill Clinton definitely had that proud parental glow as they emerged from Chelsea’s post-rehearsal dinner party at the Beekman Arms Inn last night. … There were a few boldfaced names (not quite A-list) spotted attending the dinner last night, too. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former Clinton adviser Vernon Jordan and Entrpreneur/Elizabeth Hurley’s baby daddy Steve Bing.
Everyone loves to speculate on the costs of celebrity weddings. And in the case of Chelsea Clinton, a girl America has watched grow up and blossom into a beautiful young woman (those ‘SNL’ skits be damned), her upcoming wedding is the closest thing we get to a royal wedding of sorts.

So, of course, everyone is trying to price out her upstate New York nuptials to fiance Marc Mezvinsky going down this weekend. The New York Daily News, has the wedding costing between $3 and $5 million. ABC pegs the price at $2 million.

Say what? Political insiders and folks who know Chelsea and her parents call the extravagant cost estimates entirely absurd. Chelsea, for one, has never been a big spender, nor does she enjoy flaunting her parent’s celebrity status. So, the hand-painted aisle that the News intimated she will walk down on her big day, probably not happening.
Putting it in perspective, the estimated price tag on then-presidential daughter Jenna Bush when she married at the president’s Crawford, Texas, ranch was only around $100,000.

Of course, Jenna got that venue for free. ABC is pegging the venue cost alone for Chelsea’s wedding as high as $200,000 for Astor Courts, a mansion designed for John Jacob Astor IV in 1902. The house is on the market for $12 million. It also happens to be owned by Clinton donors Kathleen Hammer and Arthur Seelbinder, who were unlikely to rake their good friends over the coals. Plus, all the publicity from this high profile wedding will probably just drive up the sale price. Everybody wins.

Yes, the guest list for this weekend is big. It will probably shake down to around 400 of the Clintons’ friends, family members as well as select celebrities and business associates of mom and dad, a list that includes various heads of state and titans of industry.

Because there are so many high-profile guests, the Clintons will certainly need to throw a tasteful affair, but they don’t have to go over the top. With a budget of just under $1 million, the Clintons can spend $2,500 per guest. That gives them plenty of cash to play with for what is already being billed as the Wedding of the Century.

Chelsea’s preferences aside, the entire Clinton clan is nothing if not media-savvy. Dad is the head of one of the largest charitable organizations on the planet, The Clinton Global Initiative, and mom is Barack Obama’s ambassador to the world.

“How would it look if Hillary Clinton were showing up in Pakistan to speak to women who earn less than a dollar a day, or if Bill went to his donors to ask for money to build wells in Africa after they just spent Liza Minelli-style money on their daughter’s
wedding. These guys are way too smart for that,” one political consultant, who has worked with the Clintons, told us.

The guessing game will finally come to an end in about 48 hours, when select wedding details will be released to the press, and when they are, we will see a picture of a tasteful and beautiful affair that still cost less than Tom and Katie’s nups. Mark our words.

4th time: See Obama see the oil spill. Hear Obama talk the oil spill. So, what'll he say tonight?4th time: See Obama see the oil spill. Hear Obama talk the oil spill. So, what'll he say tonight?

What are you doing over here reading about the oil spill's impact on the faltering Obama presidency when he spent the night on the Gulf coast to help distract your attention away from all the things that haven't happened during his watch over the nation's worst environmental disaster ever?

That's not what the Illinois White House team wants you to do. Wherever the president goes the media follows -- except no photos allowed of his Sunday golf outings. His activities are supposed to be the all-powerful public agenda-setter. Except, oops, they aren't. Even with Barack Obama's first Oval Office address to the nation set for tonight. Chances are he won't be sitting like this at his historic desk.

Here's the deal: For whatever reason -- wishful, political or ignorance because oil spills are a relative rarity in Obama's old South side Chicago state Senate district -- the nation's Top Talker was late to be seen reacting seriously to the gooey catastrophe.

Nine days elapsed before he could fit a look-see in between mini-vacations and DNC fundraisers and this summer's White House music presentations and a White House picnic for Congress and graduation warnings about making excuses in life and re-campaigning for his healthcare legislation, which so many of us thought he had already signed.

By the time Obama made his first Louisiana trip and didn't see one drop of oil, Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal was nine days into his now eight-week full-time devotion to directing and listening and talking and consoling.

As one result,of 1,030 likely general election....

...voters in the once-staunchly Democratic state of Louisiana finds the GOP governor's approval rating at 66% while 60% now disapprove of the president's spill job.

The nation's CEO did get out the Costa Rica proclamation on Monday. And he's already laid on yet another fund-raising trip to help Harry "Won't You Please Help a Poor Majority Leader?' Reid in Nevada next month, according to the all-knowing columnist Jon Ralston there.

But Obama has been unable yet to find time to talk with BP's CEO, nearly 60 days into the crisis, raising serious questions not about his campaigning ability but about his leadership ability once he's won the office. Such articles appeared here about why he keeps BP as a whipping boy and over here as the federal government is exposed as an empty Wizard of Oz and over here, even from Jon Stewart how Obama is now reacting to the mess in precisely the jumping up-and-down manner he once said was unnecessary.

Now, how would a pro politician react to these troubled times as the needle on the nation's Dial of Blame gauge begins to swing inevitably toward his truly? Well, a real pol would....

Touchdown Jesus, the famous statue located on the Interstate 75, near Monroe, Ohio, was destroyed by a lightning strike. The statue’s posture, a giant Jesus with his arms raised in the air, looking at the sky, made the locals give the monument the unusual nickname.

Touchdown Jesus was not destroyed by the lightning hit itself but by the fire that started after. The fire spread quickly, endangering the nearby structures, according to some witnesses. Another victim of the same thunderstorm was a local amphitheater that also caught fire after a lightning strike, but fortunately the flames were not strong enough to entirely destroy the building. will rebuild the statues or not.

Sarah Palin Blames Environmentalists For Gulf Oil Disaster

Sarah Palin

In her latest note on Facebook, Sarah Palin is blaming "extreme 'environmentalists'" for causing the gulf oil disaster that has been unfolding for over a month. Her logic is that because environmentalists push for tougher drilling regulations onshore in places like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (also known as ANWR) it forces oil companies to explore deeper offshore drilling which has more risks.

Palin writes:

With [environmentalists'] nonsensical efforts to lock up safer drilling areas, all you're doing is outsourcing energy development, which makes us more controlled by foreign countries, less safe, and less prosperous on a dirtier planet. Your hypocrisy is showing. You're not preventing environmental hazards; you're outsourcing them and making drilling more dangerous.

Extreme deep water drilling is not the preferred choice to meet our country's energy needs, but your protests and lawsuits and lies about onshore and shallow water drilling have locked up safer areas. It's catching up with you. The tragic, unprecedented deep water Gulf oil spill proves it.

You can read her full note on Facebook here.

This is one of several comments about the oil spill Palin has made that has caused a stir, including a tweet in which she said we said we shouldn't trust BP because it is a foreign oil company. Palin's husband Todd worked for BP for 18 years.

Betty White "Hurt More Than She Thought" By Rue McClanahan's Death

Anne Lu - AHN Entertainment Contributor

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) - Rue McClanahan's death has hurt her "Golden Girls" co-star Betty White more than she thought. White said the loss of her dear friend struck her hard.

The 88-year-old comedienne said in a statement, "Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasure our relationship. It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that's even possible."

McClanahan passed away Thursday at 76 after suffering a stroke.

White, who played Rose Nyland on the defunct NBC sitcom, is now the only surviving star of the show. Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy Sbornak, died April last year from cancer, while Estelle Getty, who played Sophia Petrillo, died in July 2008 from natural causes.

McClanahan's role as Blanche Devereaux gave her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1987.

Lakers vs. Celtics 2010 Game 1: Lakers Beat Celtics 102-89

NBA Finals Celtics Lakers Basketball
LOS ANGELES So the Celtics want to play rough again? Kobe Bryant and the Lakers look ready this time around, and they barged into an early lead in the NBA finals.Bryant scored 30 points, Pau Gasol had 23 points and 14 rebounds, and defending champion Los Angeles got tough in a 102-89 victory over Boston in the NBA finals opener Thursday night.

Ron Artest scored 15 points after tumbling to the ground in a tangle with Paul Pierce in the opening minute of the 12th finals meeting in the NBA's most scintillating rivalry. Bryant and Gasol then led a gritty physical effort against the Celtics, who memorably pushed around the Lakers while winning their 2008 finals matchup in six games.

Pierce scored 24 points and Kevin Garnett added 16 after a slow start for the Celtics, who might not want to know Lakers coach Phil Jackson's teams in Los Angeles and Chicago have won 47 straight playoff series after winning Game 1.

Game 2 is Sunday night at Staples Center.

If the first 48 minutes of the rematch are any indication, this series again will be a knockdown, drag-out physical confrontation - and the supposedly finesse-oriented Lakers held their ground early.

Ray Allen scored 12 points in just 27 minutes, saddled with constant foul trouble while trying to guard Bryant. Pierce also picked up early fouls, while Garnett simply struggled, going 7 for 16 from the field and grabbing just four rebounds - even inexplicably missing an open layup with 51/2 minutes to play.

That's mostly because of Gasol, the Spanish 7-footer determined to assert himself after admittedly getting pushed around by Garnett two years ago. Gasol capped a strong game by sprinting downcourt and catching a long pass in stride for a dunk with 6:21 to play.

This one was rough from the opening tumble.

Just 27 seconds in, Artest and Pierce got double technical fouls after crashing to the court back-to-back with elbows locked. The mood didn't improve much in a game featuring 54 fouls, but Bryant's playmaking and the Lakers' inside advantages drove them to a 20-point lead after three quarters before surviving Boston's final run.

Los Angeles outrebounded the Celtics 42-31 and put up a strong shooting percentage until a fourth-quarter slump, again excelling at the their two biggest areas of strength in this postseason.

Andrew Bynum scored 10 points on his injured right knee as the Lakers improved to 9-0 at home in the playoffs, with 12 straight postseason home wins dating to last year's championship run.

UFC 114: Rampage Jackson vs Rashad Evans video and results

UFC 114 ended with something of a surprising upset last night, as Rashad Evans controlled much of his bout with Rampage Jackson before taking a unanimous decision.

The two had been rumored to do battle for some time, dating back as far as UFC 107, when the initial duel was set to take place. But Jackson withdrew because of his work on the A-Team movie, prompting an angry response from UFC President Dana White and frustration from Evans.

But Evans got his revenge last night, completely obliterating Jackson for the first two rounds. Jackson, to his credit, stormed back in the final round, turning in what Matt Murai of AmericanSuperstarMag.com called a "third-round onslaught," but when the final bell tolled Evans was the victor by scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27.

The fighters weighed in at just one pound apart and both have championship pedigrees with the UFC, but Jackson was considered the favorite and entered with plenty of momentum. An Evans victory wasn't necessarily a shock, but to see him own Jackson so thoroughly through the first two rounds was something of a surprise.

30 May, 2010

Rashad vs Rampage video is among the most sought after video on the net right now. UFC 114 fight results show that Evans, Bisping, Nogueira won their fights

LAS VEGAS: British middleweight star Michael Bisping was sharp, disciplined, and in fine form in his UFC 114 co-main event bout with Dan Miller Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, using a pinpoint striking attack to score a three round unanimous decision victory over the ultra-tough New Jersey native.

“The gameplan was to do what I did but to finish the fight,” said Bisping. “He’s tough. I hit him with some big right hands and he took them.”

Scores were 30-27 twice and 29-28 for Bisping, who was coming off a close decision loss to Wanderlei Silva in February.

After an intense forehead to forehead staredown that prompted a pre-fight push from Miller, the two fighters met at the center of the Octagon at the bell and got down to business, poking at each other with range-finding strikes. Bisping was the busier of the two, and he found a home for his strikes, but the more economical Miller was able to land as well. By the end of the round, Bisping had bloodied Miller’s nose and reddened his face, while the Brit went back to his corner unmarked.

Rampage Jackson vs Rashad Evans fight is anxiously awaited by fans of both sides. The UFC 114 fans in Las Vegas are in love with either Mr. T or they like Rashad Evans' trash talk during Season 10 of "The Ultimate Fighter."

Evans did not get support from the crowd and was badly booed by the crowd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center for the UFC 114 weigh-in. Meanwhile UFC 114 Fight Card and UFC results are most sought after presently.

Explaining the scene, Brett Okamoto from the Las Vegas Sun wrote, “It was nearly impossible to hear anything Evans was saying over the microphone while on stage — even prompting commentator Joe Rogan to tell the crowd, ‘Let’s show Rashad some love.’

Evans tried to garner public support by playing the nice guy in front of the crowd. "I’m just trying to stay relaxed. There’s definitely a lot of anticipation for this fight but at the end of the day, it’s just another fight to me," said Evans.

Jackson, who will face Evans, however, wasn't so gracious. "He’s dead. I’ve been waiting a long time for this fight. I’m back in the UFC and it’s time for me to crush some skulls. He’s dead," said Jackson.

Jackson added that he hates Evans a lot. "Never in my life. I’ve never trained so hard so I could shut his big mouth. A guy with a glass jaw shouldn’t talk so much," Jackson responded.

Jackson is acting in the Mr. T role of B.A. Baracus and looked rusty throughout the game. The 14-month layoff clearly took its toll as Jackson failed to match Evans' superior wrestling skills. "I guess ring rust is a factor. I looked good, felt good, was strong, but I had a lot of rust," Jackson said.

Jackson looked good in the third round when he landed flurry of punches on Evans, that knocked him to the canvas. But Evans recovered soon to end Jackson’s challenge and the fight. "I went down for a little bit, but that's what happens," Evans said.

Rashad Evans came out on top and defeated Rampage Jackson at last night's UFC 114 title match. Evans won his second title shot and up a few spots in the Light Heavyweight Rankings, while Rampage dropped a few spots, according to FightMagazine.com.

The fight announcers said Rampage was “Bigger, stronger, more determined than ever” when he walked into the ring last night in Las Vegas, but guess that wasn't quite right. Fans seemed like they were on his side though, and even booed Evans when he walked into the ring to get the fight started.

These two have some bad blood between them, so it was likely a hard loss for Jackson. The fight was unanimous, with Evans winning 30-27 29-28 30-27. This fight was one of the biggest non-title fights for the UFC, and we doubt either of these two expected to walk away with a loss without a big fight.

David huff Robertson day-to-day not available Sunday

NEW YORK -- Dave Robertson will not be available for the Yankees on Sunday, one day after he had to leave an appearance with tightness in his lower back.

"He's down today. He's day-to-day," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He doesn't feel terrible today, but I won't use him and see how he is tomorrow."

Robertson said that he never had a bruise from the hard liner that Joe Mauer smoked off his back on Wednesday, saying that his belt -- which still has the seams from where the ball impacted it -- took the brunt of the damage.

"It's right above that, so I'm guessing that ball he hit off me probably had a little something to do with it," said Robertson, who is wearing a heat pack on his back to keep it loose.
A-Rod talks to Huff, happy pitcher is OK

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez was breathing a little easier on Sunday morning, having talked to Indians starter David Huff and learning that he was OK after being struck above the left ear by Rodriguez's line drive in the third inning on Saturday.

Rodriguez left the Yankees' clubhouse shortly after the completion of Saturday's game to see Huff in the hospital, but the pitcher was already back with the Indians at that point. Rodriguez was able to talk to him over the phone on Saturday night.

"We spoke for about five or 10 minutes, and he's just a really nice guy," Rodriguez said. "He was in good spirits. He said the results were good. There are more tests coming out and hopefully they'll be good, too."

Rodriguez compared the incident to one from two years ago, when a shot off the bat of Bobby Abreu hit Twins' pitcher Nick Blackburn in the head. This one was different, Rodriguez said, both because Huff remained motionless for so long and because the third baseman knew just how hard he hit the ball.

"David laid there for what seemed like 30 minutes, but was probably three or four minutes," Rodriguez said. "We're there with 50,000 people and only one person knows how hard you hit a guy. A lot of times you hit it back up the box, and you hit it off the end or off your hand a little. But I hit that ball really flush. He actually kidded with me yesterday that he was going to come find me during batting practice and ask me if that was my best shot, if that's all I got. My answer would have been, 'Yeah. That's all I got.'"

It wasn't too hard to discern just how hard Rodriguez had hit the ball after it ricocheted well into right field off of Huff's head. Once Rodriguez reached second safely, he took off his helmet and jogged toward the mound to check on the pitcher.

"I literally saw that ball go toward his head in slow motion," Rodriguez said. "It sounded like it hit cement, like a brick wall."

Huff appears to be fine after the scary moment, with Tribe manager Manny Acta reporting that the pitcher didn't have any concussive symptoms on Saturday. Huff is back with the team and may even make his next start.
Posada takes BP, eager to return to action

NEW YORK -- Jorge Posada has been adamant that his fractured right foot will not cost him nearly as much time as the Yankees have estimated, and continues to believe that he can beat all conservative timetables back into action.

Posada has not played since May 16, and when he was placed on the 15-day disabled list four days later, the Yankees guessed that he might miss three to four weeks.

But after taking batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, the catcher believes he might be ready very soon.

"I need more hitting, and we'll see," Posada said. "I think if I hit today and tomorrow, we'll see. Running is the thing. I've got to run the bases and all of that stuff. If it feels fine after that, we'll see."

Yankees manager Joe Girardi did not have a date in mind for Posada, who may need to play in rehab games before being activated. Posada can be activated on Tuesday at the earliest and said that he "would like to" play in the Orioles series that begins that night.

"I think a lot of it is going to take care of itself when we see him run, which is real close," Girardi said. "We're real close to seeing him run on the treadmill. Once he gets through that, we'll probably put him on the field to run. And once he gets through that, he's real close."

Posada had another MRI on Thursday in New York that confirmed he is healing well from the fracture, which he believes came from a foul tip off the bat of the Twins' Michael Cuddyer. Posada was happy to get the boot removed, the first step toward his return.

"It felt better without the boot than with the boot, to tell you the truth," Posada said. "Everything else was hurting because of the boot, hip and back and all that stuff. I tried my shoe and it felt good."

Girardi said that he would watch Posada to see if he runs with a limp, which would be a "huge concern" because of the chain reaction of injuries it could cause. Other than that, Girardi said he could be quick to offer a green light.

"The one thing we don't necessarily have to worry about is, in a polite way, speed is not one of the things we have to worry about," Girardi said. "As long as he's running OK, I don't see it being an issue. It's a little different to when you look at someone like [Curtis] Granderson, because he has so much field to cover out there."
