Anamika Veeramani is the official winner of 2010 Spelling Bee contest and reportedly, she is the third Indian-American who has won this contest. The winning intelligent girl is just 14-year-old who belongs to North Royalton, Ohio, US. The contest was held at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Washington D.C. It was two-day contest which broadcasted live on ABC. The word which brought her to victory stand was ‘stromuhr’. Stromuhr is a medical term and reports say that only 1% of total populations on earth use it. There were a total of 274 contestants but Veeramani left all them behind and grabbed the victory. Talking about her win, she said that it was like a dream come true for her and it was exciting experience. She said that she had a poker face so it was even better for her that she won it. She wants to get a cardiovascular surgeon degree from Harvard.
She was handed 30,000 dollars in cash along with Trophy sponsored by E.W. Scripps Co. while other prizes include a saving bond worth 2,500 dollars, 3,499 dollars by Encyclopedia Britannica and a scholarship of 5,000 dollars from Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation.
The host for the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee was Chris Harrison of “The Bachelorette” and “The Bachelor”. The contest also included Vanya Shivashankar the sister of Kavys Shivashankar who was winner for 2009. Vanya was the youngest contestant with 8 years of age.
