Touchdown Jesus, the famous statue located on the Interstate 75, near Monroe, Ohio, was destroyed by a lightning strike. The statue’s posture, a giant Jesus with his arms raised in the air, looking at the sky, made the locals give the monument the unusual nickname.

Touchdown Jesus was not destroyed by the lightning hit itself but by the fire that started after. The fire spread quickly, endangering the nearby structures, according to some witnesses. Another victim of the same thunderstorm was a local amphitheater that also caught fire after a lightning strike, but fortunately the flames were not strong enough to entirely destroy the building. will rebuild the statues or not.
