Avatar movie review 2009: Amazing art and questionable story line cited by some (video)

Avatar movie review 2009: James Cameron's Avatar is receiving a lot of publicity lately. Everyone has an Avatar review, and each review is unique. There are many people that are captivated by the story and by the director's earth shattering special effects. On the other hand there are many critics that think that the story line isn't as strong as it could be.

The story of Avatar has been compared to that of "Pocahontas," just as the story of "Titanic" has been likened to "Romeo and Juliet." Some also contend that there are themes of racism and political indoctrination woven into the tapestry that is Avatar. Click here to read about the hype surrounding the "hidden messages" in Avatar.

So which is it? Is it an extraordinary movie, or is it a big joke? As with many things, it all depends on what you plan on taking from the movie. If you are looking for a good story, there is some indication that you may be disappointed. If you are looking to be transported in to another world, it appears if you will be very, very pleased.

Avatar has been well received at the box office, shattering records and raking in $77 million domestically on the first weekend and then $75 million on Christmas weekend. The only movie to outshine Avatar was Sherlock Holmes...but only on its Christmas Day opening. Click here to find out how much Sherlock Holmes beat Avatar by.

If you want to have an experience unlike any other experience you could ever imagine, it is said that you need to view the IMAX 3D version of the movie. I have heard that some people that easily experience motion sickness have had difficulties sitting through the 3D or IMAX versions.

Avatar has received over 80% ratings on RottenTomatoes.com. In addition, it has been nominated for multiple Oscars and will be on the radar at the Academy Awards. Even though the movie has brought in $150 million domestically, there is still a long way to go to make the money, as the budget is in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Those in Davidson County that wish to see Avatar can click here for showtimes and here for IMAX showtimes. The IMAX is located near Opry Mills and includes not only IMAX screens but also regular screens. If you have plans to see Avatar on IMAX, you will need to purchase your tickets early as many show times have sold out quickly.
