Vonn overcame a deep shin bruise she suffered during training and a steep, curvy and ice-bumped mountain to grab a gold for skiing.Without having difficulties, Vonn well managed to finish to at a speed approaching 70 mph in 1 minute 44.19 seconds. Anyway, as she landed at the Franz's course at Whistler Creekside resort, Vonn rested in the snow and raised both fists in ecstasy.
After the match, Vonn, her victory was a record as it is for the first time an American woman wins a gold in that event said she could not stop crying.
"This is everything I ever wanted and hoped for. I had a lot of ups and downs in my career. Standing here today at the finish and to win is amazing."
With Vonn's gold, America is doing well in the Winter Olympics with a number of victories. It was with a surprise Americans saw her teammate Julia Mancuso's winning silver in skiing. 25-year-old women pair has widely attracted attention of American advertisers.
In the meantime, Davis became the first American male athlete to defend his title Olympic title. In Turin, Davis had become first black athlete to win an individual gold.
"It's always nice to go out there and do it again," said an excited Davis, who won by 0.18 seconds over silver medalist Mo Tae-Bum of Korea. "Four years ago I was on the offensive and now I find myself on the defensive."
